There are two main types of slot machines – straight slot machines (also called flat tops) and progressive slot machines - and within these groups you’ll see several versions that include 5-reel slot machines and Video slot machines, Bonus slots, Buy-a-Pay slots and Multiline slots. The difference between these two groupes is in the method the prize pool is calculated and the possibilities of an individual player to hit the jackpot: in the straight slot machines, the winner is paid a preset amount, whereas in the progressive slot machines, the jackpot grows by a certain percentage of every coin played.
Straight slots. These versions of slot machines have maximum amount of payout, a constant jackpot that never grows, and does not decrease after being won. Straight slot machines payout for any winning combination of signs that are listed on the pay table. They are not connected to any other slot machines, so the jackpots are exclusive to each machine. The odds you will win are really high. Respectively the amount of jackpot is rather small. Though this kind of slot is simple they still have some subtypes. These subtypes include:
- Single Line slots. These are all the basic slots, containing three reels and one pay-line. The object is simply to line up the signs in order to win. A 5-reel slot looks like a 3-reel slot, but is bigger. Instead of having three columns, it has five columns.
- Multiple Pay lines. In a Multiple Pay line slot machine, there is more then one payout line (some machines are equipped up to twenty various pay lines). Each credit played will activate another payout line.
- Multiplier Slots. The payouts offered by multiplier slots are calculated upon the number of coins bet on a spin. Your payout is multiplied by the number of coins you bet. So, in the event that you bet one dollar you will be paid ten coins on the ten-coin payline, but if you bet two coins you will receive twenty dollars.
- In a Buy-a-Pay slot, payoffs are determined by the sum a player is betting.
- Bonus slots are slots that have a special round in addition to the standard slot game.
- Feature slots add different options to the standard slot game to enlarge the challenge. These options consist of wild sign, multipliers or additional rounds. Feature slot machine are ordinarily multi-line slots, but not always.
For example, suppose a machine pays out for three lemons, three oranges, and three cherries.
Betting one coin activates lemons.
Betting two coins activates lemons and oranges.
Betting three coins activates all winning sign combinations.
If the player were to bet 1 coin and 3 oranges appeared on a payline, the player would not get the jackpot. You would need to bet 2 coins in order to collect for that sign combination.
Progressive slot machines offer the largest prize pool of any versions of slot. In case of progressive slots, several slots in a row are linked together. When a player at one of these slot machines places a bet, a certain percentage of that bet is added to a prize pool. Progressive slot machines are characterized by the growing common prize pool. The amount of the jackpot depends on the quantity of money played in all slots. The jackpot increases until one of the players gets it. Once a jackpot is hit, it is go back to the initial level and process starts again.
